In any event, I imagine a survey of Canada would show that less than one half of the population speaks English at home. I suppose I should wring my hands and try to get someone in authority to force people to speak English so my culture doesn't die. But I don't care. Why? Because I believe that if a culture or language has something to offer, it will survive. If it doesn't, no amount of band aid solutions, legal compulsion or other ringfencing mechanisms will save it. One of the great strengths of English has been its ability to incorporate other languages, rather than trying to keep its pure wool nature. Is the English I speak the same as the English spoken 800 years ago? Not at all. Do I feel demeaned or cheated by this fact? Again, not at all. Evolution is all about accepting and incorporating change, not fearing and trying to hide from it.
Central girls hold off Lady Bears, 61-57
Billings Central took down the third-ranked Class AA team in the state and in the process earned a season sweep of Billings West Saturday night.It was another rough-and-tumble affair for the Lady Rams, who made just enough free throws at the end to hold off the Lady Bears 61-57 at Ralph Nelles Activities Center.Austin Hanser scored a season-high 18 points and Kylie Medicine Horse added 15 as the Class A Lady Rams swept a two-game series from their intra-city counterparts for the first time since the fall season of 1997.After taking a 13-11 lead on a basket by Hanser with 2:07 left in the first quarter, the Lady Rams maintained the lead the rest of the way by fending off several West charges."It's a good win," Central coach Kathje Dalton said. In the midst of all this, Dr. Phil somehow gained access to her room and supposedly counseled Britney. Here's the statement he issued to Entertainment Tonight: "My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention. She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her." However, Britney's meeting with Dr. Phil was all her parents' idea and she was blindsided by the visit, according to TMZ: Sources say Phil tried speaking with Spears for about 15 minutes -- not an hour as Dr.
